East Belfast Lifeline

The Lifeline Project in East Belfast got off the ground in November 2006 – Mark McFeeters is the Youth Worker overseeing the development and progression of this new and exciting YI venture. Mark is based in the Youth Department of Strandtown Christian Fellowship Church in Sydenham and is trying to draw kids into the programme from the surrounding areas.

Mark is working alongside 4 other youth workers in CFC and helps run Café Merge – the Youth Internet Café, The projects out of CFC all work hand in hand to provide a holistic approach to Youth Work to address every aspect of a young person’s life.

Mark started in September 2006 and has now recruited a dedicated team of 9 volunteer youth leaders to help run and sustain the project. He is currently working alongside a number of local youth workers as well as schools and churches to really make an impact in East Belfast.

Lifeline runs every Wednesday in Café Merge from 8pm-10pm and it is for anyone aged 14-18.

Each week Mark works in Café Merge on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He also is part of a detached team who talk to local young people on their School lunch break. Most recently he has started working in the SU of Ashfield Boys High School alongside teachers and another local youth worker. On Fridays he runs a sports group in CFC and within the next few weeks will be helping to start a football ministry programme on a Tuesday night.

As with all youth work, its all about building and developing lasting friendships with young people and promoting and creating a positive relational environment for young people to be themselves and realise their potential and find their place in society and Lifeline aims to help young people discover the contribution they can make to Northern Ireland.
