What is it?

The Girls Project works in partnership with Lifeline, reaching out and involving young women from the ages of 15 to 18, while some remain as very valuable volunteers after 18!

The project is run by the Girls Team: a mixture of staff, volunteers and young people who meet up once a month to plan. We decided that this year our theme would be ‘ Knowing me, Knowing you!’

This year as a group and as individuals we aim to:

Know ourselves better
Know each other better
Have fun
Be inclusive
Grow spiritually, emotionally and mentally
encourage and make healthy lifestyle choices

How?

We aim to do this through:

1) spending time together building relationships both at the centre and on trips, e.g we have been to the Icebowl and the musical ' Fame ' at the Grand Opera House this term; and we are planning a prayer evening in January;

2) small groups

3) special events for girls, e.g ' Stuff- In the PC' : this was a special Christmas event on the 11 th December where we made Christmas presents, cards and decorations, had lunch together, and then chilled out to a film, games and Christmas karaoke in the evening! It was great craic!

4) being there for one another: we recognise that young women face many issues and we support one another through small groups, mentoring and friendship.

5) residentials, e.g we have planned a weekend at Whitepark Bay for 4 th to 6 th February 2005 where we will be exploring some issues relevant to young women;

6) training for the Girls Team, e.g. we are hoping to do a course on 'Active Listening' in January 2005;
